Community Guidelines
Atlas puts people in cars on the same road at the same time. That only works if everyone behaves like they would on a real breakfast run.
The short list
- Drive legally and safely. A convoy is not a licence to bend the rules.
- Treat other members the way you would if you were standing next to them at a fuel stop.
- Do not share anybody's location or personal details without their say-so.
- Keep reports honest. Other drivers act on them.
- If someone asks you to leave them alone, leave them alone.
Driving in a convoy
Riding or driving in a group changes how people behave, usually for the worse. Atlas is designed so nobody has to drive badly to keep up.
- Never speed, run a red light, or take a risk to stay with the group. Everyone is navigating to the same destination and the same stops. If you fall behind, Atlas still takes you there.
- Do not block traffic to keep a convoy together at an intersection or a circle. Let the group split and regroup at the next stop.
- Do not use Atlas to organise racing, illegal gatherings, or anything designed to evade lawful road enforcement.
- Leaders: set a pace the slowest member can hold legally, and put in regroup stops on a long route.
- Do not operate your phone while moving. Mount it and use voice guidance. If you are leading and need to change something, hand over leadership or stop safely.
Treating people decently
Not allowed, anywhere in Atlas — trip titles, descriptions, banner images, aliases, broadcasts, or profile photos:
- Harassment, bullying, threats or intimidation
- Hate speech or slurs targeting race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic
- Sexually explicit or violent content
- Content that sexualises or endangers a minor
- Impersonating another person or organisation
- Spam, scams, phishing, or unsolicited advertising
- Sharing someone else's private information — their address, phone number, workplace or location — without their consent
Location and consent
Location sharing in Atlas is always the sharer's choice. That principle only holds if people respect it.
- Do not pressure anyone to join a circle, share an ETA, or turn on background location.
- Do not use Atlas to monitor a partner, family member or employee against their wishes.
- Do not screenshot and redistribute someone's position.
- Do not use a public trip to work out where somebody lives or where they will be.
If someone is using Atlas to track or intimidate you, block them and write to support@atlasdrive.co.za. If you are in immediate danger, call 10111 or 112 first.
Hazard reports
Reports are how drivers warn each other. They are only worth anything if they are true.
- Report what you actually saw, in the category that fits it.
- Do not file reports to mislead other drivers, to divert traffic, or as a joke.
- Do not report where you are not — file it as you pass, or get a passenger to do it.
- Reports expire on their own. There is no need to re-file the same one repeatedly.
Running a public trip
Listing a trip publicly means strangers can find and request to join it. If you do that, you are taking on some responsibility for it.
- Describe the trip honestly — the route, the pace, the vehicle type, the distance.
- Do not put private information in the title, description or meeting point. Assume anyone can read it.
- Vet join requests. You can approve, deny, and later kick or ban.
- Make the meeting point somewhere public and sensible.
- Remember that Atlas does not vet the people who ask to join. Neither of you knows the other.
Your tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Block | Hides that person's content from you. One-directional and silent — they are not told and cannot find out. |
| Report a person | Sends us the account and your reason. Only we see it; the person reported does not. |
| Report a trip | Flags the trip's content. Enough distinct reports and the trip drops out of public discovery pending review. |
| Kick (admins) | Removes a member from your trip. They can be re-invited later. |
| Ban (admins) | Removes a member and blocks them from rejoining your trip by any route, including a fresh invite link. |
How we enforce this
We review reports and act proportionately. Depending on what happened, we may remove content, remove a trip from public discovery, restrict a feature, suspend an account, or terminate it permanently. Serious cases — threats, content involving a minor, or anything presenting an immediate risk — get acted on first and explained afterwards, and may be referred to the authorities.
A ban survives account deletion. Deleting and recreating an account is not a way around one.
If you believe we acted wrongly, write to support@atlasdrive.co.za and we will look at it again.
The in-app convoy alert notifies the members of your trip. It does not call police, ambulance or fire services. In an emergency, call 10111 or 112 from a mobile phone.
